Only God Knows

These are times we truly say, “only God knows.” Humbled by the health & financial impact of COVID-19, our current social unrest to heal racial wounds, plus the controversies that come with a major political election year – we are leaning all the more into God’s providential care. We know not only that God knows what we are going through but that He is the promise maker & promise keeper who sees us through as we trust in Him.

God does this as we practice these 5 promises:

1.) We do not grow weary in our well doing but are renewed by our faith and service. (Galatians 6:9)

2.) We humbly consider the needs of others as more important (or at least as equally important) as our own needs, and through this humility we become like minded in Christ. (Philippians 2:1-5)

3.) We practice the full Golden Rule – “do to others as you would have them do to you”) and it’s corollary – “condemn not lest you be condemned for with what condemnation you judge others, it shall be judged to you.” (Matthew 7:1-2, 12)

4.) We learn contentment in all circumstances by Christ’s strength who enables us to do all that we need to do, whether we have a lot or a little. (Philippians 4:11-13)

5.) We give a loving witness of Christ to our beleaguered world “by how we love one another as He has loved us.” (John 13:34-35)

We are at midpoint in 2020 and 1/20th of our way through the new decade. No one except God knew we would be enduring the immense challenges of this year. Our needs don’t outpace God’s preparations! He provides what we need so we that can do what he has called us to do.

Even though today isn’t done and tomorrow hasn’t come, we humbly lean into the future because God goes before us. We are people of hope.
