On Earth As It Is In Heaven

A good earthly life begins with prayer, grows by prayer, and climaxes in prayer. Jesus taught the prayer we now call the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) so we would know how to walk the prayerful pathway of a heavenly life on earth.

The language is profoundly simple and direct. Anyone can pray the prayer but only those who seek to live by the prayer can know the liberating power which God offers through the prayer. The King James Version offers the best known translation of The Lord’s Prayer, using 65 words.

The prayer’s transforming power is revealed in “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Heavenly living on earth is made possible when we live to show that:

“Our Father” belongs to everyone and His name is to be “hallowed” by how we honor Him in daily life. God then shapes our desires so we want to share “our daily bread”, “forgive” and “accept forgiveness”, are “delivered from evil” by denying “temptation”. From this-  God’s “Kingdom, power & glory” are established “forever” in our souls and more clearly in our world.  This is sweaty, spiritual work.

By daily praying to live this prayer you are doing your part to form more of God’s heavenly will in our world.
