Love Risks Action
“Let us be Christian in all our actions. But I want to tell you this evening that it is not enough for us to talk about love, love is one of the pivotal points of the Christian faith. There is another side called justice. And justice is really love in calculation. Justice is love correcting that which revolts against love.” -MLK
This Independence Day weekend is a time to remember the continual task each generation of our nation has to “form a more perfect Union.” Centuries ago, Baptists fleeing persecution from other Christian sects helped to advocate for and develop our nation’s sense of religious liberty for all people. Many of us want to be the best citizens we can be in the 21st century, and yet we also know we are ultimately citizens of another kingdom. We live in the tension of longing for the return of our King and his call to love our broken world in the name of Jesus. This Sunday we will be looking at Micah 6:8 and how it shapes our sense of love in action. We’ll sing a new song “Even So Come” which reminds us that “There will be justice/ All will be new… So we wait/ we wait for you.” God invites us to walk humbly for justice, even as we wait in expectation for God’s final fulfilling of all things!
