Legacy of Faith

A few weeks ago, my husband and I were honored to attend the Nation Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. There were many speakers, politicians, musicians, a race care driver, a professional boxer, and a Harlem Globetrotter. All of these speakers spoke of God’s redemptive power and love in their lives.

As they shared their transforming stories, one common theme was the troubled childhoods these individuals had experienced. As I listened, I was reminded of the blessing Godly parents are to children. As parents, God has given us an amazing responsibility and opportunity to spiritually guide our children.

No one has more potential to influence your child than you… Teachers, pastors, and coaches will never have as much potential to influence a child’s character, self-esteem, perspectives, or faith as a parent does. Teachers, pastors, or coaches will have an influence that is temporary. It will come and go during different stages of your child’s life. Your influence as a parent will be permanent. Take advantage of this precious time as a parent by:

  • Praying for your children
  • Living out His word at home
  • Connecting with a church community that will partner spiritual discipleship with you.

More importantly than anything I leave my children, is that I leave them a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ.

Start children off on the way they should go and even when they are old they will not turn from it.  – Proverbs 22:6
