Words of Wisdom
Donn Wisdom
It is time for several very important events – for the Wisdom family and the Trinity family! This past weekend, I have been in Georgia to celebrate our son’s (Jonathan) graduation from Mercer University in Macon; and will remain in Atlanta for a few days making final preparations to place our home up for sale. In just under three weeks, I will be officiating at our daughter’s (Allyson) wedding on June 5 and participating in all the joy that surrounds such a life-changing family event. Already, we have moved a large amount of furniture from our home to the newlywed’s new home in preparation for their taking up residence when returning from their honeymoon. The week after the wedding will be a time for my wife (Jo Joyce) and I to be together after a few months of major family events and experiences; and to get our bearings on making the complete transition to San Antonio which we hope to be the end of the summer. While very exciting for our family, these events have been a planned part of our call to Trinity.
Regarding the Trinity family, many wonderful things are taking shape within the Music and Worship Arts Ministry of which I am very excited for as well. Response to the Survey has been outstanding – thanks to all who provided a reply. We begin this coming Sunday, May 23, 2:30 – 4 p.m. with the first rehearsal and organizational meeting of the new Trinity Orchestra. I will be conducting this group of musicians, at least at first, as we resume this very important way to offer our musical talents to the Lord – and I am looking forward to meeting each instrumentalist as well as charting our course together. All players should plan on bringing their own instruments except for percussionists (since we have timpani, etc., but bring any mallets you might have) and we will determine if additional instruments are needed at the first rehearsal. Soon after this rehearsal, we will begin organizing the Trinity Worship Band(s) which will include other rhythm players.
What will begin to develop next is developing the leadership group for beginning Preschool and Children’s Choirs when school begins in the Fall. Again, from the survey, we have several people who have offered to assist – and since it takes a large group of folks to effectively and efficiently lead children’s music, I am very grateful for those who have responded. Anyone, in addition to those who have already volunteered, who can direct, play, or feels led to be a worker with Preschool and Children’s Choir needs to contact me, directly. I will be contacting all who have volunteered to date – personally. In an effort to begin highlighting the importance and the outstanding experience that can be enjoyed in children’s choirs, we will be hosting the Mercer Children’s Choir on Sunday, June 13th for morning worship. This impressive 35-voice older children’s choir sings a variety of age-appropriate music for schools, churches, denominational gatherings and community events. I hope that everyone with children, grades 1-6 will be sure to be in worship on June 13th – you’ll enjoy them tremendously.
An important aspect of the worship arts at Trinity will also be re-forming in the coming months – drama – as we continue to receive names of those who are interested in various forms. Please let the Music Office know of your interest.
Lastly, if your schedule now allows you to sing in Chorale during the summer, then please join us on Wednesday evenings, 7-8:30 p.m. in E250. We will maintain a full regular rehearsal schedule for most of the summer and all adults who sing (college students, as well) are very welcome.
