Meet Gavin Rogers

By Gavin Rogers

Members of Trinity Baptist Church.

It is with full excitement and humility that I accept the call to be recommended as your Youth Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church and serve alongside each one of you as we look to transform this community and the lives of families and students living in our neighborhoods. I believe that we stand at the brink of transformation in Central San Antonio and that Trinity Baptist Church can help lead the movement of spreading the peace and love

of God to our neighbors living in this city. This truly is a special church!

Throughout my ministerial career my calling has been solidified and validated through the experiences of Christian Education and youth programming within the local church. After much discernment and prayer I know that I am called to be in youth and family ministry for a long time and build upon a youth program that exists to proclaim the love of God, practice Christian community, and lead students to grow in their full potential in and for Jesus Christ.

I am a graduate of Baylor University (B.S. Education and Outdoor Recreation); Focus on the Family Institute (Certificate in Family and Marriage Studies); and Duke University (Masters of Divinity). The goal of my post-graduate studies was to attain the best possible theological and pastoral education I could receive and apply it to the field of youth ministry. The greatest benefit of my seminary experience is that it not only provided me with a wonderful education but it deepened my love of God and strengthened my desire to share and teach the gospel to young people living in a self-centered world. Most seminary graduates choose a career path within the academy or church pulpit but I have chosen to focus my theological education towards student ministry.

At Trinity Baptist Church my hope is to continue the great legacy of proclaiming the gospel, disciplining students that have met Jesus, and encouraging them find God’s calling for their lives. However, as a youth pastor, my goal is not only to touch the lives of our students though Jesus Christ but to move students into action so they can become the salt and light to a dark and tasteless world. As we look to build upon the youth program here at Trinity. Every decision will be made prayerfully and with these questions in mind…Does this proclaim the Kingdom of God and message of Jesus Christ, participate in Christian community, and help practice a student’s heart to live out the mission of our Savior now and after one leaves home?

The youth of San Antonio are faced with tough challenges each and everyday. However, I know there is plenty of hope left in the lives of our students because I believe the words of Isaiah still ring true…“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even the youth grow tired and weary and young people stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
