From the Youth Pastor Search Team
Dear Trinity Congregation,
We write to you today to announce some exciting news! We are now able to release the name of proposal for the youth minister position.
After months of interviews, reference checks and prayer, the Youth Pastor Search Team has decided to call John Gavin Rogers to Trinity.
Gavin graduated from Baylor University with his undergraduate degree in 2004 and earned his Masters of Divinity degree from Duke University. His experience in ministry includes two years working as a Young Life Waco Student Staff Member from 2003-2004, three summers as a counselor at Kanakuk Summer Camp in Missouri, two summers as an intern at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, and most recently, two years as the Jr. High Youth Director at University United Methodist Church.
Gavin feels called to this church and our youth program, and we, the search team, have complete confidence that he is what our students need. We believe that he will infuse the group with energy and fill the role of Student Minister masterfully for years to come.
The Youth Pastor Search Team,
Ted Cleveland, Lisa Clingman, Steve Daniel, Anita Foster, Kitty Hale, Kathryn Howie, Hudson Kyle, Juliana Monteiro, Marianne Outlaw, Julie Speer, Malcolm Thomas

- Lisa Clingman
I am excited to welcome such an energetic and passionate minister to lead our Trinity Baptist youth. I am confident in Gavin’s ability to reach and guide our young people toward Christ. He will be a wonderful influence and role model as he clearly understands what our youth are faced with in our current society. Gavin will bring an incredible gift of youth mission work to our church which is the cornerstone of Christ’s message to us all.
- Steve Daniel
Gavin is the unanimous choice of the Youth Pastor Search Team for this position. His enthusiasm and energy was evident in each step of the process. He is eager to develop relationships with the youth and their families and is excited about the possibilities available in this community. Gavin’s vision for intergenerational programs fits very nicely into the five generations represented by the members of Trinity. He makes friends easily and will be a wonderful addition to our church family.
- Anita Foster
I am so very excited about Gavin coming to Trinity to lead our youth. He brings with him great energy and passion for our Lord. The one thing he said that stuck with me is how he wants to teach the kids to have a “missional life”--taking missions on in a way you just live it daily. I am looking forward with great hope to this new chapter for our youth and all of us here at Trinity.
- Kitty Hale
When our team first talked about what we wanted in a youth minister, the first qualification most of us mentioned was an ability to build relationships. Gavin Rogers does that incredibly well. He is a man interested in youth and in their spiritual journey. He is committed to teaching and leading and growing youth. Gavin is passionate about his calling and is devoted to his ministry. I am eager for him to join our church and am excited to serve with him. Most importantly, I cannot wait for my children meet him and begin building relationships with their youth minister.
- Kathryn Howie
I’ve been an active member of the youth group at Trinity for 5 years. I’ve weathered the perpetual transition and seen youth ministers come and go. That said, I whole-heartedly believe that Gavin Rogers is the perfect choice to become the long-term Youth Minister at Trinity Baptist Church. He has just the combination of energy, passion, and spiritual depth to re-ignite this youth program and return it to its place as one of the best in San Antonio. I believe he possesses the initiative and maturity to orchestrate everything from movie nights to international mission trips. Spiritually, he has the ability to disciple young people from the pulpit while maintaining a personal relationship with each student. After 6 months on this search team, I know that Gavin is the person God has chosen for Trinity. The best is yet to come!
- Hudson Kyle
I’m so excited to have Gavin as our new Youth Minister! He is energetic and creative, but he is also thoughtful and focused. He has a great vision for our group and our church, and I could not think of a better candidate for this position.
- Juliana Montiero
Thinking about Gavin Rogers leading our youth makes me smile! Fun, energetic, highly relational, spiritually mature, savvy and thoughtful are just a few things that come to mind when I think of our new youth minister. One of the specifics I was looking for in a Youth minister was someone who was aware of the culture in which our students are immersed. This culture demands something different and Gavin gets this. I am looking forward to our youth benefiting from his gift of relational ministry, for the youth’s understanding and participating in missions and his partnering with the Staff and Trinity congregation to grow our kids for Christ’s glory.
