Words of Wisdom

Donn Wisdom, Minister of Music & Worship Arts

Scriptures of musical praise resound throughout the book of Psalms much like the hymn arrangements of the OBU Symphonic Band did in worship on February 28 – with trumpet, flute, cymbal, all instruments in adoration of God concluding in Psalm 150 with the phrase “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” That is our charge and our privilege to offer praise and prayer in worship when God’s people are gathered at Trinity and encourage all to “Praise the Lord!” Many opportunities for ministry through music and worship arts will be unfolding in the months to come, and some are currently active:

Trinity Chorale – Adults 18 and over providing music and worship leadership every Sunday; rehearsals every Wednesday, 7 – 8:30 p.m. in E-250 (or occasionally in the Sanctuary).

Mainstream – Youth, grades 7-12, rehearsing weekly on Sundays from 1-2 p.m. in E-250 and currently preparing to sing in worship on Easter.

Instrumental groups will be organizing soon after Easter for high school students and adults who play strings, brass, woodwind, rhythm keyboard and percussion instruments. The time of returning to school in late August each year brings a number of opportunities for preschoolers and children – and this year will include Graded Choirs to offer another component of spiritual formation for the children of Trinity and our community. Dedicated musicians, workers and parents will insure a successful, meaningful and fun environment of music for our children. Solos and ensembles will develop from within the members of each group as gifted and led by God for service beyond the larger groups.

These, and other new and reclaimed opportunities, will add depth, variety and balance to the worship life at Trinity – so that we develop a lifestyle of worship “from the rising of the sun to the going down.” Won’t you prayerfully consider joining others in singing, playing, teaching and expressing your God-given gifts of music at Trinity? If so, please contact me – I certainly would like to speak with you. Please call the music office at 738-7721 or email me.
