OBU Symphonic Band Joins Us Feb. 28

    The Symphonic Band from Oklahoma Baptist University will join us in worship on Sunday, February 28. The Band, under the direction of Dr. Jim Hansford, is touring the San Antonio and South Texas area on February 26 - March 1 and playing in selected churches and schools.  The band has toured extensively in the Central, Southern and Southwestern United States

including trips to Denver, Tucson, Phoenix, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, St. Louis, Albuquerque and most recently Kansas City. Dr. Hansford, an active adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor for over 40 years, has served on three occasions as conductor of the Texas Baptist All-State Band. As conductor of the Oklahoma Baptist All-State Symphonic Band since 1993, he has lead the group on Oklahoma Baptist Convention sponsored international tours to England, and Vancouver, British Columbia, and to Boston on the “Heart Awakening: Reaching Boston for Christ” mission trip which also included the 250-voice Baptist All-State Choir.

    Oklahoma Baptist University, located in Shawnee, continues to be recognized for quality Christian education being ranked as Oklahoma’s highest rated college in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for 16 consecutive years. Among baccalaureate colleges in the western region OBU ranks second in the “America’s Best Colleges” ratings of the same report. OBU was named a “Best in the West” institution in the 2009 Princeton Review.

    OBU is owned and operated by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. Students from over 40 states and 20 foreign countries are enrolled in the University’s five undergraduate schools. More than 180 of OBU’s 1,800 students are declared majors in the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts.
