Donn Wisdom

Minister of Music

     Donn Wisdom was born and raised in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area; he accepted Christ and was baptized when he was 7 years old. Donn realized his call to ministry as a teen involved in the youth choir of First Baptist Church of Tulsa and was ordained May 30, 1977, First Baptist Church, Mineral Wells, TX. Donn and his wife Jo Joyce of Mineral Wells, TX, were married in 1979, and they have two children, Allyson Jean Wisdom, age 25, and Jonathan Burke Wisdom, age 21.

     Donn received his Bachelor of Music Education with a concentration in voice from Oral Roberts University in 1976, and. Donn then received his Master of Music in voice from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1979, also completing the course work for Master of Music in conducting.

    Donn is a member of the Baptist Church Music Conference, Fellowship of Baptist Pastoral Musicians, American Choral Directors Association, and Fellowship of Baptist Pastoral Musicians Steering Committee (2007-09); he has served as a tenor soloist at Falls Creek, Ridgecrest, and Glorieta Baptist Assemblies; and is a published author with Lifeway Resources periodical literature.

     Throughout his successful career, Donn has been active in both denominational and musical activities, including serving as Music Director for Southern Baptist Forum, Las Vegas, Nevada, June 1989; many state and national Cooperative Baptist Fellowship events, and the National Conference of Preaching, Atlanta, Georgia, May 1990.

     During his tenure at Wieuca Road Baptist Church he has lead his church in hosting many events, mission trips and concert tours. Events hosted include the WMU National Annual Meeting, June 1999; Southern Baptist Church Music Conference, June 1991 and June 2000; Fellowship of Baptist Pastoral Musicians for Polyphony in 2009. Mission trips and tours directed include Baptist European Concert Tour, July 1990; combined choirs for mission trip to Russia with John Wood Ministries, October 1998; Sanctuary Choir Choral Mission Trip to Italy, June 2001; and Sanctuary Choir selected to sing for the GA ACDA Summer Conference at Spivey Hall, July 2008.

     Donn is praised by those who know him as having a passion for excellence in music ministry, being a strong leader with a heart for ministry who is able to work within multiple musical styles, and for producing some of the best choral music in the Atlanta area.
